A shopkeeper has been threatened with a knife during an attempted robbery at a newsagents in Paisley.

The incident occurred shortly before 10pm on Friday evening at the premises on Glasgow Road.

A man entered the store and demanded money from the till while threatening the shopkeeper with a knife.

The suspect made off empty handed and headed west along Glasgow Road.

He is described as white, 5ft 8in tall and of medium build. The man spoke with a local accent and was wearing a face covering and all dark clothing.

The shopkeeper was unhurt but left shaken by the incident.

Detective Sergeant Kenny McLachlan said: “Our enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of this incident and tracing the person responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time and witnessed what happened to please contact us.

“In addition, we are asking members of the public to check CCTV and dash-cam footage as this may hold something relevant.”
