A man has been jailed for 14 years following a botched murder bid.

Shooter Darren Lethorn opened fire on his intended victim, 36, in Cardon Square, Renfrew, last year. However, the bullet missed and instead smashed through the window of a nearby flat, narrowly missing the innocent occupant inside.

A major investigation was launched following the incident on June 27, 2019.

Police described the attack as “targeted” and appealed for information about a white Audi RS3 that was seen in the street at the time of the shooting.

Lethorn, 34, was sentenced on Monday after being found guilty of the two attempted murders following a trial last month.

Detective inspector Robert Bowie said: “The intent to inflict serious injury was Lethorn’s objective that day when he took the decision to point and fire a weapon at a man in public.

“His actions are reprehensible and unacceptable.

“The sentence [on Monday] ensures our streets are safer and that Lethorn will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
