A sex attacker who tried to rape a stranger in a park has been jailed for five years.
Ibrahim Daly pounced on the woman, who eventually managed to fight him off.
The Syrian-born 23-year-old had initially met the victim in the city centre, briefly went for a drink before they walked to Glasgow Green late on May 6, 2024.
It was there Daly struck by grabbing the woman, struggling with her before trying to force himself upon her.
After the attack, he was captured on CCTV sprinting away from the scene eventually back to where he had been staying at the time.
First-offender Daly, latterly of the city’s Hillhead, was sentenced on Thursday, having been convicted of attempted rape.
The High Court in Glasgow was told he had “lacked candour” in a pre-sentencing social work report claiming he was “unable to recall” the crime.
Judge Alistair Watson stated: “Your victim entrusted her safety with you by going to the park in the dark.
“While there, you attacked her…she struggled as best she could.
“You were a complete stranger to your victim. The attack was violent and sustained.”
He said Daly’s jail-term would have been six years had he been older, but reduced the sentence due to his age and the guidelines for sentencing younger offenders.
The judge also imposed a non-harassment order banning him from going near the victim – although added it may be Daly is deported back to his homeland whenever he is released.
The court earlier heard on Thursday that Daly had left Syria in 2018 and came to the UK in 2022.
A “leave to remain” in the country was due to expire in 2028.
