Seven people including two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a drugs raid on a number of homes in Greenock.

Police executed warrants in the Ann Street, South Street, Wellington Street, Brachelston Street, Nicolson Street and Drumfrochar Road areas on Friday morning following a months-long investigation into the supply of illicit substances in the town.

Two 17-year-old men, along with others aged 20, 39 and 55 and a 44-year-old woman were arrested over the probe.

A 39-year-old man was also arrested on an outstanding warrant. All were reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Officers said drugs and money had been recovered from the properties and a probe remained ongoing.

Detective chief inspector Craig Riddell said: “Today demonstrates our commitment to tackling the illegal supply of drugs and apprehending individuals involved in serious and organised crime across our community.

“This day of action has been the culmination of investigatory work over a number of months.”

DCI Riddell added: “We rely on the public to build our intelligence on these issues and I would encourage anyone to report any concerns or suspicious activity to the Police by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.

“Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. By working together, we can keep our communities safe.”
