A subway station in Glasgow was partially closed after police responded to a “serious assault” in the city centre.

An area of St Enoch Square was cordoned off after emergency services attended at around 2.15pm on Sunday.

One person was taken to hospital.

Police Scotland said there was no risk to the wider public but advised people to avoid the area. The force said its enquiries into the incident are continuing.

Glasgow’s Subway said: “Due to an ongoing police incident the South entrance of St Enoch Station is currently closed.

“Passengers can still access the station by the North entrance (facing Buchanan St). Apologies for any inconvenience.”
