Security guard at Poundland store tests positive for Covid

The Union Street store in Glasgow closed for deep cleaning following the news and has since reopened.

A Poundland store in Glasgow closed after a security guard tested positive for coronavirus.

The Union Street store was informed of the news on Wednesday through track and trace and made the decision to close immediately for deep cleaning.

Four other staff members have self-isolated after coming into direct contact with the security guard.

The store has since reopened and is trading as usual.

A Poundland spokesperson said: “Last Wednesday we were informed through track and trace that a security guard at our Union Street store in Glasgow received a positive Covid result.

“He hadn’t been at work since August 29, but the store immediately closed for a short period, was deep cleaned and in line with our protocols and government guidelines, four colleagues who had been advised they’d been in direct sustained contact with the guard self-isolated.

“The store reopened last Thursday and is trading normally.

“No other members of the team there have had tests returning a positive result. We obviously wish our security contractor from Union Street well.”
