Second man arrested over 'attempted abduction' of 14-year-old schoolgirl

A teenager has been arrested over the alleged attempted abduction of a schoolgirl in East Renfrewshire.

The 14-year-old was reportedly targeted by two men who tried to persuade her to get into a vehicle on Harvie Avenue in Newton Mearns, at around 3pm last Wednesday.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged over the incident on Friday before an 18-year-old was also arrested a few days later.

The teenager will appear at court in connection with the incident on Wednesday and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

Police Scotland confirmed the second arrest on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the force said: “Officers have arrested a further man in connection with an incident in Harvie Avenue, Newton Mearns where efforts were made by two men to persuade a 14-year-old girl into a vehicle.

“The 18-year-old man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.”
