Searches carried out after 'bomb threats' made towards East Kilbride high school

Police have carried out searches after ‘bomb threats’ were made towards a secondary school in South Lanarkshire.

On Monday, threats referencing “explosives” were posted by an account on social media, while several other accounts including South Lanarkshire Council were tagged.

Following the threats, police carried out searches of the school and deployed dogs to find explosive material at the school in East Kilbride.

Officers said “nothing of concern” was found and offered reassurances to the community.

However, parents have told STV News they plan to keep their children out of school over the threats.

Chief Inspector Paul Doyle said: “We are investigating what is believed to be a malicious communication sent to a high school in East Kilbride on the morning of Monday, September 7.

“There has been subsequent online messaging regarding this, which is also being investigated.

“I want to reassure the public, we’ve carried out thorough searches of the area with specialist resources, including an explosives search dog, and nothing of concern was discovered.

“Officers will continue to have an increased presence in the area and anyone with concerns can speak to them or call us on 101.

“I want to be clear: making hoax threats is a criminal offence and we’re doing all we can to trace the person responsible.”
