Scots mum in hospital in Portugal after suffering stroke on holiday

A Scottish mum is in hospital in Portugal after suffering a stroke while on holiday.

Shereen Lafferty, from Glasgow, unexpectedly suffered a stroke while on a getaway with her husband Robert and has been in hospital since Sunday.

The 37-year-old, a mum to nine-year-old daughter Aria, has been advised she will need to remain hospitalised for at least another two weeks before she is stable enough to travel.

The family says she requires a specialised medical transfer back home to Scotland, which can cost upwards of £25,000.

Loved ones are raising funds for the medical repatriation flight, with more than £3,400 already raised.

A post on the GoFundMe read: “Back home, her nine-year-old daughter Aria is waiting for her mum to come home. Every day apart is tough for both of them, but bringing Shereen home safely so she can be surrounded by family during her recovery is our top priority.

“We are reaching out to ask for your support. Any donation, big or small, will go directly towards funding Shereen’s medical repatriation flight and ensuring she gets the care she needs back home.

“If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would mean the world to Aria and Robert.

“Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness at this incredibly difficult time.

“Any money that is raised but not needed for getting Shereen home and settled will be donated by the family to a charity.”
