A man has died in hospital bringing the total of deaths from a weekend of drowning tragedies in Scotland to seven.

Aman Sharma got into difficulty in Loch Lubnaig, near Callander, at around 3pm last Sunday.

Emergency services attended and the 34-year-old, from Edinburgh, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died two days later.

Six others died in Scottish waters that same weekend.

The youngest victim was a boy of nine, while an 11 and 13-year-old also died as well as a 41-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman.

The first of the seven fatalities occurred on Friday evening, when a 16-year-old boy died in the water at Balloch Country Park, at the south end of Loch Lomond.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3pm on Sunday, officers were called Loch Lubnaig, near Callander, where a 34-year-old man had gotten into difficulty while in the water. 

“He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died on Tuesday, 27 July.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
