A record number of visitors are set to steam their way into Glasgow’s SEC for Scotland’s largest model railway exhibition event.
Model Railway Scotland recorded a 25% increase in ticket sales ahead of the exhibition, which is taking place over the weekend.
Organisers believe as many as 20,000 visitors will attend the three-day event, the largest number in the show’s 59-year history.
Among the main attractions this year is the appearance of Charlie Bishop, one of the hobby’s leading influencers.
STV NewsThe event features over 50 layouts depicting miniature railway worlds from home and abroad, as well as stands from 130 exhibitors.
“It’s a real coup getting Charlie,’ said event organiser Colin Rae. “It shows the popularity of our event that big names like him come along. It’s a huge show and has something for everyone.”
Speaking to STV News about the event’s popularity, Colin said: “It’s a hobby that is always there for you.
“There are always new people coming into the hobby, there are a lot of young people interested.
“It remains popular because you can take yourself away from everyday life and go to your own place or environment.
“If you’re building a layout, it takes you into a different world. It’s a nice switch-off.
STV News“You have train sets basically for five to six-year-olds right up to fully blown digital train sets that the serious modeller looks to run.
“In Scotland, we have 33 member clubs that make up this show so anyone looking to get into railway modelling is welcome to speak to any of the clubs, and they can tell you a bit about them. It’s a good social club.”
The Model Rail Scotland 2025 exhibition returns to Hall 3 at the Scottish Event Campus Glasgow from Friday, February 21, until Sunday, February 23.
