A nine-year-old boy has been left in a serious condition after he was struck by a bus on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to a report of a crash involving a schoolboy, who was riding a bicycle, and a bus on the slip road between Glasgow Road and the A77 in Kilmarnock at around 11.45am.
The nine-year-old was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. His condition is described as serious.
No-one on the bus was injured.
The road was closed for around five hours for officers to carry out enquiries and was reopened around 5pm.
Sergeant Brian Simpson said: “Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of this incident. I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.
“Drivers with dash-cam who were on this road around the time of the crash are asked to review their footage and please contact us if it holds anything relevant.
“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 1248 of February 16.”
