A schoolboy is fighting for his life after being struck by a bus outside a school in Motherwell.
Emergency services were called after a crash on Hamilton Road at the junction with Nigel Street at around 5.05pm on Wednesday.
The incident involved a silver Volvo single deck bus and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 13-year-old boy, was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow with serious injuries where his condition is described as critical.
No one else was injured in the crash.
The road was closed and re-opened around 8.30pm.
Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward.
Sergeant Elaine Scott said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to the public for information.
“If you saw anything then please get in touch. We are also asking drivers to check dash-cam to see if there is something recorded that could help our investigation.”
