Work on the almost £6m makeover of Sauchiehall Street is set to be put on hold for the Glasgow Fair holiday.
The revamp, which includes road and footway reconstruction, rain gardens and planting new trees, will pause for around two weeks to allow contractors to take their holidays.
Contractors will finish on Thursday July 11 and are expected to resume on-site on Monday, July 29.
There have previously been complaints about the look of the street while work is ongoing, with sections of the road dug up and fenced off.
However, the council has said the project will “revitalise this famous strength of the city centre and make it a more pleasant and attractive place to spend time”.
Initially, the redevelopment project, known as the Sauchiehall Precinct and Cambridge Street Avenue, was set to be completed this summer. Delays mean it is now forecast to be finished by the end of the year.
A council spokesman said the holiday period “won’t affect the programme of works for the project, with most of this to be delivered by the end of 2024”.
He added council officials will be checking the site daily over the two weeks to ensure there are no issues.
Funded by the Scottish and UK Governments through the £1bn City Deal infrastructure programme, the scheme will include rain gardens, 40 trees, new kerbing and lighting and road, pavement and footway reconstruction.
The council has previously said the project was delayed due to issues with “underground utilities” which led to the design being amended.
A contract was awarded to MacLay Civil Engineering Ltd in June 2023.
