A man has been left in hospital after an alleged “targeted attack” by three youngsters armed with “weapons” in Rutherglen.

The 32-year-old was rushed for treatment after the trio carried out the assault in the Fairie Street area of the town at around 4.25 on Thursday, September 14.

Shoppers at a nearby branch of Aldi initially came to his aid as the youths fled in the direction of Mill Court.

He was later taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for further care.

Investigators are treating the attack as pre-planned.

One of the suspects was wearing a blue jacket, with a white hood and dark bottoms, whilst the other two were wearing all dark clothing, with hoods up.

Detective Constable James McKee, from Cambuslang CID, said: “This appears to have been a targeted attack which has left the victim requiring hospital treatment.

“There were a number of people in the area around the time of the incident and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened, or saw the group in the aftermath, to please get in touch.

“I would also urge any motorists with dashcam footage of the incident or the suspects making off from the area, to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2549 of September 15.
