Rothesay residents have been told to hang on to their waste for up to six weeks due to resurfacing work at the local recycling centre, it has been claimed.
Councillor Peter Wallace (Conservative, Isle of Bute) said that he had been questioned on the matter by constituents since work started at the site last month.
Argyll and Bute Council’s newly appointed head of roads and amenity services said he was unaware of the issue and pledged to investigate it.
The discussion took place at a meeting of the council’s Bute and Cowal area committee on Tuesday, September 2.
Councillor Wallace said: “I have been getting questions about why there are not better temporary provisions in place. People are being told they need to hold on to their waste for six weeks.
“If you are living in a flat with three-weekly bin collections, what do you do with waste when you are turned away from the tip?”
Andy Summers responded: “I was not aware of that. Businesses will be in the same position if they are using the site.
“I will get you a response this afternoon to identify the extent of the problem and any advice we are given, but I was not aware there was no access to the facility.”
A page on the council’s website states: “Due to site resurfacing works, there will be some disruptions at Westlands Recycling Centre from Monday, August 18, for up to a month.
“Only essential items are to come to the site during this period, and vans and trailers may be restricted.
“Disposal of the following items must be avoided during this time: scrap metal, TVs, white goods, plasterboard, hazardous household and wastes e.g. waste oil and paints. Please keep such items at home until the works are complete.”
