A man who struck his victim on the neck with scissors after a row over whisky has been jailed for 21 months.
Robert Garrow, 35, swung the weapon at Christopher McGill at a hotel near Glasgow city centre on November 27, 2021.
He had earlier been offered a drink by Mr McGill but he refused as he did not like it.
Garrow was then attacked before the pair later met at the reception area where the scissors assault took place.
On Thursday, Garrow pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr McGill.
The court heard Mr McGill was in the staff side of the reception area at 10.15pm when Garrow approached.
Prosecutor Lauren Donnelly said: “He was in possession of a pair of scissors and he was swinging them in a rotary motion.
“At this point, the scissors struck Mr McGill’s neck.
“Luckily, the scissors failed to penetrate the victim’s neck.”
Garrow was apprehended by hotel staff as a 999 call was made.
He was later arrested after officers were shown CCTV of the incident.
Stephen Bentley, defending, said: “They had been in Mr McGill’s room and a trivial argument took place.
“Mr McGill asked Mr Garrow to take some of his whisky but he does not like whisky and tried to leave the room.
“Mr McGill then became aggressive towards him and assaulted Mr Garrow before he left the room.
“The incident which was narrated to the court then took place.”
Sheriff Paul Reid told Garrow, who appeared from custody, that he had no option but to impose a custodial sentence.
He said: “It is by only great fortune that you’re not facing a more serious charge.”
