Roads have reopened in Glasgow after a double-decker bus crashed into a bridge – with one passenger fighting for their life in hospital.
Police officers confirmed eight people suffered injuries after emergency services responded to the crash in Cook Street near the city’s O2 Academy on Saturday.
Five were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment where one person is said to be in a critical condition.
Three were assessed at the scene and attended hospital.
Ten people – including a child – were taken to hospital after a bus crashed into the same bridge and had its roof torn off in May 2023.
The alarm was raised after 6.10pm on Saturday. Fire crews, Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service all attended the scene.
Cook Street, which was closed at Centre Street, Commerce Street, Wallace Street and Salkeld Street, reopened to traffic after midnight.
First Bus confirmed “numerous injuries” reported on its 4A service and said it is working with Police Scotland to investigate.
In an update on Sunday, a spokesperson for First Bus said: “I can confirm that one of our 4A service buses in Glasgow was involved in a bridge strike incident on December 14 around 6pm, in which a double decker bus hit a railway bridge on Cook Street.
“We’re aware that ten people were injured, with five people being taken to hospital in an ambulance. We have launched an immediate investigation and are also assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries.
“The road was cleared and re-opened shortly after 12.30am this morning.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.”
A Police Scotland statement on Saturday read: “Eight people have been injured in a crash in Glasgow.
