A major road remains closed in both directions 11 hours after a vehicle caught fire in South Ayrshire.

The A77 near Glenapp Church in Girvan was closed after 8pm on Tuesday due to a vehicle catching fire.

Traffic Scotland warned road users on Wednesday morning that the road remains shut at this time.

Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attending the scene.

Diversions remain in place via the A75 and the A714.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
