A number of properties have been evacuated as a 'precaution' following a gas leak in Inverewe Avenue, Glasgow.

A road has been closed in both directions and properties have been evacuated after a gas leak in Glasgow.

Emergency services and SGN engineers were called to the city’s Inverewe Avenue on Thursday evening.

It comes after damage to a gas network, the Scottish Gas Network confirmed.

A number of properties have been evacuated as a “precaution”, officers confirmed.

Nitshill Road, in Glasgow, has been closed in both directions and drivers have been advised to find an alternative route.

Nitshill Road in Glasgow remains closed in both directions due to a gas leak at Inverewe Avenue. SGN engineers are currently on the scene. Motorists are asked to find an alternative route.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5pm on Thursday, May 11, 2023, we received a report of a gas leak in Inverewe Avenue, Glasgow.

“A number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution and a cordon has been put in place. Nearby road have been closed.”

A SGN spokesperson said: “Nitshill Road, Glasgow, is being closed both ways, between Spiersbridge Roundabout and the M77, following third party damage to our gas network.

“M77 motorists exiting at junction three Nitshill Interchange will be affected.”
