A major road has been locked down in Glasgow due to a gas leak.

Hillington Road South between Paisley Road West and Cardonald Court has been shut down due to gas escape works taking place on Friday.

It is unknown when the closure will be lifted.

Drivers have been urged to plan alternative routes at this time while engineers repair the issue.

Dan Brown, spokesperson for gas company SGN, said: “We’re carrying out urgent repairs to our gas network along Hillington Road South after a leak was identified.

“Our engineers are working to fix the affected pipe to ensure everyone remains safe and warm.

“For safety, a section of Hillington Road South, near to its junction with Cardonald Court, has been closed to southbound motorists. Affected road users should follow the signed diversion route via A736 Sandwood Road and A761 Paisley Road West.

“It’s too early to say how long this work will take to complete.”
