A road in Dumfries and Galloway has been closed for over six hours due to an HGV fire during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the A75 near Eastriggs at around 12.10am following reports of a vehicle carrying straw catching fire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has dispatched four appliances to the scene. As of 7.45am the blaze has still not been fully extinguished.

The road remains closed closed in both directions due to the incident.

Drivers have been urged to avoid the area and allow for extra travel time as diversion are in place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A75 is closed between Eastriggs and Gretna due to a lorry fire.

“Emergency services were called around 12.10am on Wednesday, 5 March, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is dealing with the ongoing incident.

“No one has been injured

“A diversion is in place and road users are advised to avoid the area.”
