A major road has been closed for emergency sewer repairs due to a burst water pipe.
Scottish Water is advising road users of disruption on the A8 heading west and onslip to the A752 at Bargeddie.
A waste water pipe near to the Showcase Cinema in Coatbridge has burst and repairs are being planned.
Overland pumping has been installed to mitigate any impact on the North Calder Water and the publicly-owned utility has operatives on site monitoring the situation.
For the safety of workers and drivers, the slip road has been closed as crews require access to a manhole on the carriageway.
Traffic using the off-slip will be diverted via the A8 at the Bargeddie Roundabout and will return eastbound to the A8.
Traffic using the on-slip will be diverted via Langmuir Road and Coatbridge Road.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “After exploring alternatives, the only way we can carry out these emergency works safely is to close the road.
“We realise this is a busy route and we apologise for any delay this may cause to your journey. Please plan ahead and follow the diversion in place.”
