A road in South Lanarkshire was forced to close after a blaze at a town restaurant.

Emergency services were called to Westwood Square, East Kilbride, at around 5.30pm on Wednesday after a fire above the Orient restaurant.

It is unknown if anyone has been injured as a result of the blaze.

Glass, a nearby beauty salon wrote: “Thank you all so so much for the messages to make sure we’re all safe and sound & the salon wasn’t affected! Unfortunately there was a fire above the Orient out the back that caught fire to the wooden Westwood dental practice sign.

“Thankfully everyone is safe and sound and hopefully the damage isn’t too bad.”

Police confirmed that Redcliffe Drive reopened at around 8pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.30pm on Wednesday, 15 January, 2025, we received a report of a fire at Westwood Square, East Kilbride.

“Redcliffe Drive has reopened following a fire at Westwood Square, East Kilbride. Motorists and members of the public are thanked for their co-operation.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
