A road has been closed and diversions have been put in place in South Lanarkshire after a water mains burst.

Emergency services, joined by Scottish Water, were called to Blairbeth Road, Rutherglen, on Wednesday morning.

Engineers remain on site as they attempt to restore operation and local diversions have been put in place.

Drivers and members of the public have been asked to avoid the area.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Scottish Water is responding to a burst 24 inch water main on Blairbeth Road in Rutherglen, G73.

“Teams are on-site working to isolate the burst and make arrangements for the repair. Scottish water will work to carry out the repair as quickly as possible to minimise the impact on water supplies for its customers.

“As a result of the burst water main there has been some localised flooding in the Blairbeth Road area, and we are on-site assisting customers in the local area who have been impacted by this.

“A road closure will be in place on Blairbeth Road near the junction with Crawfurd Road to ensure the safety of the public and the repair teams. This closure may remain in place until the repair has been completed and a full reinstatement of the area carried out.

“Local diversions are in place for all road users.

“Scottish Water apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks local residents and businesses for their patience and understanding.”
