Fire crews battled a “well-developed” blaze at a former laundrette in East Renfrewshire.

Emergency services were alerted to the “well-developed” blaze in a row of shops on Stamperland Crescent in Clarkston at around 11.30am on Tuesday.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched four appliances to the scene.

Police Scotland said Stamperland Crescent is closed between Clarkston Toll and Clarkston Road at Stamperland Gardens.

The road was reopened around 2pm.

The blaze, which broke out at the laundrette on the street, has also caused “extensive damage” to surrounding businesses.

Eny Rodgers, owner of Cafe Serenitea which is situated next door, said she was “shocked” to see the damage to her business.

“The laundrette next door is completely wiped out, my canopy, sign and walls have been damaged, I could still feel the heat coming off the wall in between,” she told STV News.

Ms Rodgers said she has had to close her business until further notice, but said she was thankful fire crews got there when they did.

“If the firefighters had been any later the fire would’ve taken my business,” she said.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Stamperland Crescent has reopened following a fire, which was reported around 11.30am.

“There are no reported injuries.

“Thank you for your patience while the road was closed.”
