Building collapses and crushes car as Storm Amy batters Scotland

The Broomielaw is currently closed to all traffic between York Street and Oswald Street.

A building has collapsed onto a car in Glasgow city centre as Storm Amy batters Scotland with winds of up to 100mph.

The Broomielaw was closed in both directions between York Street and Oswald Street around 6.20pm, and police are on the scene.

The derelict building was formerly the Minstrel’s pub, known for featuring one half of a lifeboat on its facade.

Glasgow City Council has urged drivers to avoid the area.

It comes amid Storm Amy, which has battered parts of Scotland with heavy rain and winds with gusts of up to 100mph.

The Met Office has issued an additional Amber warning for wind, with the first warning coming into force at 5pm on Friday.
