Emergency services are searching the River Clyde near Bothwell after reports of a man entering the water.
Police, fire, and coastguard crews were called to the scene at around 2.10am on Wednesday after a person reportedly entered the water.
A helicopter was dispatched by the coastguard to assist with the early-hours search.
The man has not been traced by officers who remain on the banks of the river. Police are now appealing for potential witnesses to come forward
Inspector Mark Chivers said: “Around 2.10am on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, we received a report of concern for a man possibly entering the River Clyde at Bothwell Road, Hamilton. Officers attended and there was no trace in the area.
“Further searches are ongoing and at this time we ask anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed anything to come forward. We would also be keen to hear from any motorists who may have been driving past around that time and have dashcam footage from the area.”
An HM Coastguard spokesperson added: “At around 2.45am this morning (Wednesday, September 11), HM Coastguard assisted Police Scotland with an incident at Bothwell in Glasgow. The HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was called, alongside Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 2.14am on Wednesday, 11 September, to an incident on Bothwell Road, Hamilton.
“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and water rescue team to the scene, where firefighters assisted emergency service partners before leaving the scene.”
