A primary school and nursery in South Lanarkshire has been closed after a fire broke out onsite.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at school in Muirfoot Road, Rigside, around 7.40am on Monday.

Firefighters attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Police confirmed there were no injuries and the fire is not being treated as “suspicious”.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council confirmed Rigside primary school and nursery would both be closed on Monday due to a fire.

“We will post more information when we have it,” they said.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.40am on Monday, May 12, 2025, we received a report of a fire at a premises in Muirfoot Road, Rigside, Lanark.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“There were no reported injuries, and the fire is not thought to be suspicious.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
