Residents evacuated from homes after vehicle strikes gas pipe

Residents in a North Ayrshire town were evacuated from their homes after a vehicle struck a gas pipe.

Main Street, in Kilbirnie, was closed between Bank Street and Bridgend following the crash at around 10.15am on Sunday morning.

Local residents in the town were urged to keep windows and doors closed and nearby properties were evacuated.

Roads have since reopened, and residents have returned to their properties.
