Residents evacuated from flats after car crashes into building as man arrested

Residents have been evacuated from flats after a car crashed into a building in East Kilbride, with a man arrested.

Police confirmed Main Street in the town is closed after a car struck a building around 10.20am on Sunday.

Emergency services are in attendance, and no injuries have been reported.

Several flats have been evacuated as a precaution, and the road is closed while the building is assessed by structural engineers.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a road traffic offence. He will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A statement read: “The public is asked to avoid the area.”
