Memorial benches dedicated to beloved Glaswegians in George Square could be temporarily removed ahead of potential celebrations following Wednesday’s Europa League final.
Thousands are expected to flock to the city’s streets if Rangers emerge victorious against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville on Wednesday, followed by Saturday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts.
Glasgow City Council has confirmed to STV News that discussions about the temporary removal of the benches in George Square have taken place.
The council says there has been “regular contact” with Rangers in the build-up to the showpiece occasions.
A spokesman for the council said: “We have been in regular contact with Rangers in the build-up to this week’s finals.
“Appropriate plans are being put in place to minimise the impact of any gatherings linked to these games.”
The family memorials were damaged after celebrations of the Ibrox club’s first Premiership win in ten years.
At the time, the local authority had condemned the “deplorable” behaviour of fans.
Over 20 arrests were made and seven fixed penalty notices handed out by police after thousands of supporters flocked to the city centre.
The vandalism was also admonished by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and deputy first minister John Swinney.
Rangers FC has been approached for comment.
