A record number of pubs, clubs and other licensed premises have bagged Best Bar None Glasgow awards this year.

106 licensed premises in Glasgow were recognised at a presentation ceremony on Wednesday at the city’s Grand Central Hotel.

Premises were inspected ahead of the awards by four independent assessors.

The number of entries soared this year, and after being assessed, 84 venues achieved Gold awards – including 31 premises which won Gold in their first year of entering.

The Singl-end Café won the Best Newcomer award, while Manuka and The Quaich were joint winners of the Most Improved Venue category.

SWG3 won the coveted Sustainability Award for the second year running. The venue has a dancefloor that generates sustainable energy and operates a reusable cup deposit system.

Prestigious overall Gold awards went to:

  • Late Night Category – The Garage and The Howlin’ Wolf
  • Specialist Category – University of Strathclyde Students Union
  • Community Pub – The Lea-Rig
  • Community Pub with Food – Bag O’Nails
  • Standard Category – The Crystal Palace and the Sir John Moore
  • Restaurant Category – The Jenny Burn
  • Hotel Category – The National Piping Centre

Scott Dorman and Davie Miller, both of King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, were named joint winners in the Designated Premises Manager of the Year category.

Lise Fisher of BBN Glasgow said: “It is great to see so many city venues striving to achieve excellence in customer safety and providing an enjoyable experience for customers.

“The results are a true testament to the ongoing hard work and dedication of licensees and their staff across the city.

“Glasgow’s licensees are currently preparing for the festive season, and customers should look out for the distinctive BBN Glasgow awards on display in winning venues.”

Best Bar None Glasgow has been running in Glasgow since 2005 and is delivered on behalf of Glasgow’s Alcohol and Drugs Partnership in partnership with Glasgow City Council, Retailers Against Crime, Police Scotland and the Licensed Trade.

Winners of the overall Gold BBN Glasgow awards will now go through to the National Best Bar None awards.
