A rapist who went AWOL has appeared in court to admit flouting a bail order.
David McCue was in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court three months after he was convicted of rape.
The 41-year-old was found guilty of repeated attacks on a woman in the city’s Townhead and Barlanark including while she was asleep.
He was further convicted of sexually assaulting a girl.
The charges spanned between 2010 and 2018.
McCue had been on bail for his trial at the High Court in Glasgow, but disappeared as it reached the latter stages before a warrant was granted for his arrest.
He was not present when jurors returned guilty verdicts to four charges.
Unsuccessful attempts were made to locate the rapist.
Police Scotland then issued an appeal in late April in a bid to find him.
McCue – who also used the surname Ross – was eventually arrested in early May.
McCue appeared from custody to pled guilty to breaching a bail order.
The charge states that McCue was granted bail on February 23, 2022.
His conditions were to sign in at Glasgow’s Shettleston police office every Saturday between 9am and noon.
There was an exception of October 16 and 23, 2022, where he was ordered to sign in at a police office in Brixton, London.
The charge says McCue did on various occasions between March 11, 2023, and May 5, 2023, fail to comply as he did not attend the police office.
Sheriff Allan Mckay asked his lawyer Ann McKinlay if her client has never received a jail sentence.
She replied: “That status will change tomorrow (Thursday).”
The sheriff fined McCue £900 but he will serve an alternative 28 days in prison.
