A Rangers star is to stand trial next month accused of careless driving.

Kemar Roofe, 29, allegedly committed the offence in Glasgow’s Govan area on March 18, 2021.

Court papers state the Jamaican international striker drove without due care or attention behind the wheel of a black Audi RS 6.

It is stated Roofe undertook several vehicles and re-entered the lane causing other drivers to brake harshly to avoid a collision.

Roofe is also charged with the registration of his car not being fixed on the vehicle.

It is stated this was displayed on the windscreen.

Roofe is further accused of not having the correct details on his licence, failing to surrender it to the Secretary of State and failing to provide the particulars of the alterations in the name and address on it.

His final two charges allege that he used the motor vehicle without a test certificate and that the registered keeper’s address was out of date.

Roofe, of Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, last played for the Gers in their UEFA Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt over a week ago.

Michael Lyon, defending, told Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace court on Thursday: “I adhere to the pleas of not guilty and the defence case is fully prepared.

“I have productions I will make available to my friend’s office and I will discuss certain matters prior to trial.”

Prosecutor Jennifer Gilmour told the court that the Crown are prepared for trial and police witnesses have been cited.

Justice Morag Wilson set a trial for the end of June and ordained Roofe to appear.
