A Rangers fan who hurled racist abuse at Celtic star Daizen Maeda after an Old Firm game has been fined £245.

Kenneth Tannock, 41, made the comment outside Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2025.

Rangers had just played Celtic in a match which ended 1-1.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Tannock was walking past the front of the ground as Mr Maeda exited it.

The Japanese international went towards a fan to sign an item for them.

Tannock then shouted from 15 metres away: “You squinty eyed c***.”

The dad was apprehended by police officers who heard the comment.

He went on to say: “It’s an Old Firm there are 50,000 c***s shouting that – that’s not racist.”

Doctors surgery worker Tannock pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner aggravated by prejudice related to race, colour nationality, ethnic or national origins.

His lawyer Paul Kavanagh told a hearing: “It is a reprehensible comment and he accepts it was an abhorrent action. He had consumed alcohol.

“He has been going to football matches for years and has never came to the attention for anything such as this.

“This was a one-off by a man who has not came to the attention of the courts before and there is no suggestion anyone heard the comment other than the police.”

Sheriff Anna Reid imposed a fine on Tannock, of the city’s Haghill, at Tuesday’s sentencing but did not grant a football banning order.
