A Rangers fan was caught with a knife while he was being escorted from Ibrox Stadium.

Conan Mackay, 35, was snared with the Stanley blade during a match with St Johnstone on January 12, 2025.

The Gers hosted their Perth opponents that day in a match the home side won 3-1.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Mackay was asked to leave the stadium which he did at 3.15pm.

Prosecutor Amanda Gallagher said: “While he was escorted, the steward felt a knife in Mackay’s right trouser pocket.”

The conversation was overheard by police officers who then attended.

He was subjected to a search and the knife was recovered.

Ms Gallagher said: “Mackay told officers that he had been at work earlier.

“He did appear to be at work as his trousers were covered in paint but he was also intoxicated.”

Mackay, of Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, pleaded guilty to having a blade in a public place without a reasonable excuse or lawful authority.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Louise Arrol KC who continued Mackay’s bail meantime.
