A staff member for Network Rail was injured when a crane collapsed onto a railway line.
Emergency services responded to an incident at an engineering sites near Port Glasgow at around 8.37pm on Saturday.
It is understood there was an incident involving a crane lifting part of the track.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent two appliances to the scene and it is understood that a man, a staff member for Network Rail, was left injured.
His injuries are not considered to be life threatening.
The works are part of the replacement of a junction in Port Glasgow where trains head to and from Wemyss Bay or Gourock.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We received a call from the Scottish Ambulance Service at 8.37pm from Glenburn Street, Port Glasgow.
“We received a report of a crane lifting part of the track had developed an issue with it.
“We sent two appliances to the scene with officers reporting one casualty, but there is no further information at this stage.”
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Emergency services responded to an incident on one of our engineering sites near Port Glasgow on Saturday.
“A full investigation into the incident is now underway and it would not be appropriate to discuss it in detail.
“Staff affected by this incident will be fully supported through this difficult time.”
