A racist smashed a beer bottle off a Good Samaritan’s face when he tried to stop his tirade of abuse.

Scott Ramsey, 31, pounced on Hugh Barr, 50, whilst on a train near Glasgow’s Partick last May.

Ramsey said an anti-Islamic slur before claiming passenger Natasha Singh, 29, “probably doesn’t speak English”.

He then said he would break her nose before being told “that’s enough” by Mr Barr.

Ramsey then smacked the glass bottle against Mr Barr’s jaw which knocked out five of his teeth.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday, Ramsey pleaded guilty to the assault to Mr Barr’s severe injury and permanent impairment.

He also admitted acting in a racially aggravated manner towards Miss Singh.

Mr Barr was found to have a cut on his upper lip as well as five teeth displaced from the socket.

Prosecutor Lauren McRobert said: “His teeth were severed from the nerve and has resulted in no feeling from his upper teeth.”

The court heard Mr Barr will need to have three teeth replaced over the next two years costing him around £6000.

Ramsey, who has several previous convictions for serious assaults, was unable to be traced before a warrant was sought for his arrest.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Andrew Cubie who remanded Ramsey in custody meantime.
