A tiny cat travelled more than 100 miles under a car bonnet – before leaping out in front of stunned garage workers.

The three-month-old kitten, now named Gasket, was found inside a Toyota Verso brought into Helensburgh Toyota, in Argyll and Bute.

But the ginger furrball vanished after leaping out the car, sparking a hunt led by manager Gavin Wilson, 45.

Cat lover Mr Wilson, who has two felines at home as well as a dog, looked around the workshop with a colleague but could not find the kitten.

But when they started work on a Toyota Subaru, they found the kitten hiding in the engine gasket – and Mr Wilson went home to fetch a cat box to take it to a vet.

The garage posted a picture on Facebook, which got 133,000 views in less than 24 hours, but Gasket’s owner has not yet been found.

Mr Wilson said: “We named him Gasket as he was found in the engine bay area. It would get really hot and he was lucky not to get caught in the fan belt.

“He spent a lovely evening with my two girls, I had to explain to them if it was their cat they’d want him to be returned. I would happily give him a home.

“The car came in from Dunoon, and the cat just jumped out. It scared me half to death.

“We saw it scurry across the workshop and managed to get the doors down, but we couldn’t find the little thing.

“We finally put another car on the ramp and started dismantling it, and found the cat.”
