Puppy litter with ‘health concerns’ rescued from illegal trade during Ayrshire police raid Police Scotland

A litter of puppies with “health concerns” have been rescued during a raid targeting unlicensed puppy traders in East Ayrshire.

The Scottish SPCA and Police Scotland carried out a joint operation in the Kilmarnock area on Tuesday morning.

A litter of puppies were seized from the unlicensed and “low-welfare” puppy trade.

They are now receiving veterinary care at one of the SSPCA’s animal rescue and rehoming centres.

Police said enquiries into the raid are “ongoing”.

A spokesperson for Scottish SPCA said: “The Scottish SPCA and Police Scotland carried out a raid this morning, Tuesday March 26, in the Kilmarnock area where a number of puppies were seized as part of an unlicensed, low welfare puppy trade.

“The puppies are now safe and receiving veterinary care at one of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centres.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Ayrshire Policing and Scottish SPCA were working in partnership today in the Stewarton area and seized a number of puppies destined for the unlicensed Puppy Trade.

“Many of puppies had health concerns and will now receive the care they deserve, enquiries are ongoing at this stage.”
