Police lock down busy city centre street after woman struck by car

Police cordoned off the heart of Glasgow’s financial district after a woman was struck by a car.

Road closures were put in place on Wellington Street between Cadogan Street and Waterloo Street, and Wellington Lane was closed between West Campbell Street and Wellington Street, at around 2.40pm on Tuesday.

The collision sparked a large emergency service response with two fire engines, the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and more than a dozen police vehicles at the scene.

Wellington Street was reopened at 5.40pm.

“An ambulance, paramedic response unit and a trauma team were dispatched to the scene,” an SAS spokesperson added.

Police Scotland said: “At around 2.40pm on Tuesday a woman was struck by a car on Wellington Street, Glasgow.

“Emergency services are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“Road closures are in place on Wellington Street between Cadogan Street and Waterloo Street, and Wellington Lane is closed between West Campbell Street and Wellington Street.

“Motorists are advised to take an alternative route.”
