Members of the public were urged to avoid an area of Glasgow after a fire took hold of a flat block on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to Balmore Road at around 1.15pm following reports of a blaze. Officers closed the area from the junction of Knapdale Street up to the junction of Ashgill Road due to the incident.

Four engines and a height appliance were dispatched to the four-storey building to extinguish the flames.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is still ongoing. Drivers and pedestrians have been asked to avoid the area.

At around 7.44pm, police confirmed the road had reopened after the fire had been extinguished. There were no reported injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Balmore Road in Glasgow has reopened following a fire at a property which was reported around 1.15pm on Tuesday, 6 January, 2026.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished. There were no reported injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 1.07pm on Tuesday, January 6, to reports of a dwelling fire on Balmore Road in Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and a height appliance to the scene, where firefighters are still working to extinguish a fire affecting a four-storey building.

“There are no reported casualties and crews remain at the scene.”
