Meanwhile around one hundred people gathered at George Square with placards, calling on the city council to fill in potholes amid claims damaged roads are “life-threatening”.

One protester told STV News: “We’re just sick of Glasgow’s roads, we’re all kind of fed up of the cost it’s causing with tyres, alloys. We’re going through Glasgow’s roads and they’re meant to be smooth and a pothole appears and before you know it, your car’s damaged and you’re out of pocket.

“We’re all living with cost implications at the moment and the last thing you need is paying out £200, £300 for your car.”

Another protester said: “The infrastructure is falling to pieces, there is potholes everywhere – it’s life-threatening.

“We really want Glasgow City Council to start investing in the roads. We need the roads to be fit for purpose. We pay our dues, we pay our bills and the roads are still bad.”

Meanwhile one protestor said she has been left in pain travelling in ambulances that have struck potholes.

She told STV News: “I’ve got to come out and protest, I’ve been in an ambulance a few times in the past year, I feel like crying, every pothole I hit, I’m in so much pain.”

Glasgow City Council has been approached for comment.
