Plans have been put forward which could see 160 flats built opposite Ibrox Stadium.

Merchant Homes has submitted proposals to convert part of the Albion Car Park, at the junction of Broomloan Road and Edmiston Drive, into a residential development.

The housebuilder’s architects have described the blueprint, which consists of two back-to-back horseshoe shaped blocks, as “both sympathetic to and celebratory of the history of the area.”

Design: Red hues to match 'iconic' Ibrox Main Stand. <strong>Graeme Nicholls Architects</strong>”/><cite class=cite></cite></div><figcaption aria-hidden=true>Design: Red hues to match ‘iconic’ Ibrox Main Stand. <strong>Graeme Nicholls Architects</strong> <cite class=hidden></cite></figcaption></figure><p>A proposal of application notice was submitted to Glasgow City Council in March and the company had hoped to hold a public event in Ibrox Parish Church on May 26.</p><p>However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this has been replaced by a live Q&A, between 1pm and 4pm, on May 29.</p><p>If the development was to go ahead, it would be situated before the roundabout and Ibrox’s Main Stand, which has been taken into consideration in the design process.</p><p>“Historic maps show that the site contained a greyhound track with a ‘bowl’ footprint which we think would be interesting to express in any new development. This plan form also fits the site really well,” the architects added.</p><p>“Our scheme also proposes a monochromatic colourway for the buildings with their red hues matching the iconic Ibrox Main Stand.”</p><div class=
