An investigation has been launched after thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused at a former church in Renfrewshire.

Emergency services were called to The Church of the Latter-day Saints, in Campbell Street, at around 1pm on Wednesday, May 10.

Windows were found smashed and property inside the building had also been damaged.

Police said the total cost of the “extensive” damage is estimated to be a four-figure sum.

It is believed the vandalism took place between April 24 and 27.

“On Thursday, May 10, 2023, police received a report of a break-in and vandalism at the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter-Day Saints, Campbell Street, John stone.

“It was reported that the incident occurred sometime between 24 and 27 April 2023.

“Police enquiries are ongoing.”
