An investigation has been launched after a home in North Lanarkshire was deliberately set on fire on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to Hillfoot Crescent in Wishaw at around 4.25pm after reports of a property blaze.

A vehicle parked close to the home was damaged during the incident. Fire crews extinguished the blaze and made the area.

Investigators are treating the incident as deliberate.

Detective constable Josh Ellwood said: “Luckily no one was injured as a result of this wilful fireraising, however the consequences could have been much more serious.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone in the area of Hillfoot Crescent on Sunday afternoon who witnessed anything suspicious or has information that may assist our enquiries to get in touch.

“We are working the trace the occupants of a black Ford Ranger and a red Mini as both cars were driving nearby around the time the fire started. I’d ask the drivers to contact us as they may have information that could help us.”
