A probe has been launched after the body of a man was found in a fairground earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Market Street in Stranraer on Tuesday.

Reports were made around 1.25pm following the discovery of the body.

Police confirmed the death is being treated as unexplained but there do not appear to be suspicious circumstances.

The incident occurred while Codonas Funfairs was in the area, with police shutting down areas around popular rides.

Organisers announced the fair was closed on Tuesday as a mark of respect.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.25pm on Tuesday, October 3, police received a report a man’s body had been found in Market Street, Stranraer.

“The death is being treated as unexplained, however, there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
