Investigation launched after city centre coffee shop set on fire

A coffee shop in Glasgow city centre has been cordoned off by police after being damaged by a deliberate fire.

Emergency services were called to the Pret A Manger on Sauchiehall Street around 4.40am on October 1, after they received reports of a blaze.

No one was injured as a result of the fire which police are now treating as wilful.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are investigating a wilful fire-raising at a business premises in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow.

“Emergency services were called to the scene around 4.40am on Tuesday, October 1.

“Nobody was injured and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0393 of Tuesday, October 1, 2024, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A Pret spokesperson said: “We are grateful to the emergency services for their quick response this morning and are supporting them with their investigation. The safety of our teams and customers is our top priority and we are thankful that no one was harmed.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
