A power spike in Glasgow early on Tuesday morning has caused traffic signals across the city region to fail.

The issues, shortly before 5am, knocked out the lights across the council area with several expected to remain off through rush hour.

Signals at Charing Cross, Duke Street, Kinning Park, Polmadie, Broomhill, Partick and Finnieston have been affected.

Glasgow City Council said an engineer needs to visit and restore each of the traffic signal sets individually.

Given the number of signals involved it is expected to take some time before the lights are functioning normally and road users have been urged to exercise caution when approaching “all dark” signals on Tuesday morning.
